Hair loss prevention

A person loses an average of 50-100 hairs every day. This is not much compared to the 100-150,000 hairs we have on our heads. However, if the number of hair loss increases, we are dealing with excessive hair loss and baldness.

Hair loss can be genetic, but many external factors are also responsible for baldness. With proper prevention, we can improve the condition of the scalp, hair follicles and hair itself, thus preventing hair loss. However, if prevention proves ineffective, what remains is to treat baldness with treatments offered by aesthetic medicine.

Hair loss prevention

Hair loss is caused by a variety of causes, ranging from genetic factors to improper diet. Finding the causes that are responsible for baldness in a specific case will allow not only to determine effective treatment, but also to apply prevention that will reduce hair loss in the future. The most common causes of hair loss include:

Chronic stress

One of the causes of hair loss is stress. In extreme cases, extremely strong stress can lead to complete hair loss. However, less stress, which is chronic, can adversely affect the overall condition of the hair, weakening it and leading to thinning. How to prevent this? Sometimes the simplest solution is also the most difficult. To reduce the impact of stress on hair loss, it is best to go to the heart of the problem, i.e. eliminate stress or reduce it. For this purpose, it is worth taking advantage of relaxation, gymnastics or outdoor activities. You can also support yourself with herbal preparations for calming: lemon balm, valerian or chamomile. In some cases, meetings with a therapist will help to reduce stress levels.

Improper nutrition

Hair loss can be caused by improper nutrition. This is especially true for people who decide to go on an elimination diet, excluding one ingredient or a whole group of food products from their meals. These types of diets lead to nutrient deficiencies, which in turn leads to weakened hair and excessive hair loss. Deficiencies of omega-3 acids, iron, B vitamins, vitamin D3 and protein play a key role in this case. Thinning hair can also be the result of a very restrictive diet that causes significant weight loss. This can be prevented by focusing on proper nutrition and providing the body with all the substances it needs. In the case of diet, it is worth taking care of proper supplementation, which will prevent deficiencies of nutrients necessary for the proper functioning of hair follicles. Gastrointestinal malabsorptionHair loss can be caused by absorption disorders from the gastrointestinal tract. In this case, even the best-balanced diet will not be able to provide the body with the nutrients that keep hair strong and healthy. The absorption of nutrients and the production of certain vitamins takes place in the intestines. If the gut microbiota is disturbed (dysbiosis), the patient will experience problems in the functioning of the digestive system, which can lead to a deficiency of vitamin B12, folic acid, iron, zinc, magnesium, resulting in excessive hair loss. In addition, gut dysbiosis can lead to scalp dermatoses and inflammation. In this case, you should seek the help of a specialist doctor who will suggest appropriate treatment.

Menopause

Excessive hair loss often accompanies menopause. Hormonal changes in the woman’s body are responsible for this. To counteract this, you should strive to balance the hormonal balance of the body. In addition, during menopause, it is worth taking care of a proper diet, rich in, m.in protein, B and E vitamins, or omega-3 acids.

Taking Testosterone

Taking testosterone accelerates and supports the muscle building process, but it has various side effects. One of them is increased androgenetic alopecia in people who have a genetic predisposition to it. How does this happen? First of all, taking testosterone disrupts the hormonal balance of the body. In addition, in the case of androgenetic alopecia, excessive hair loss is caused by hypersensitivity to DHT, a derivative of testosterone. On the other hand, the result of hypersensitivity to DHT is the miniaturization of hair follicles, which leads to baldness.

Genetic predisposition to baldness

Genetic predisposition to alopecia is responsible, m.in, for, among others: – androgenetic alopecia, – alopecia areata. Androgenetic alopecia is caused by the hypersensitivity of the hair follicles to DHT, the active form of testosterone. As a result, hair follicles shrink, which leads to hair loss even at a very young age. Alopecia areata, on the other hand, can occur in people who suffer from autoimmune diseases such as Hashimoto’s disease or vitiligo.

Dry scalp

A dry scalp is more likely to suffer from hair loss. The condition referred to as dry skin can be caused by the use of inappropriate hair cosmetics and too frequent use of a hair dryer, curling iron or straightener. To prevent dry scalp, it is worth taking care of proper hydration. To do this, you should properly hydrate your entire body, i.e. drink at least 2 liters of water every day. In addition, you should eat a diet rich in nutrients such as zinc, magnesium, selenium and vitamins A and E. In addition, you should avoid cosmetics and hair styling devices that dry out the scalp excessively. In addition, you can moisturize the scalp with home remedies, e.g. use linseed oil on the head.

Significant oiliness of the scalp

Significant oiliness of the scalp can also be responsible for hair loss. To counteract this, you should use proper hair and scalp care, including: – wash your hair as often as it needs – the layer of sebum left on the head makes it stop oxygen from reaching the hair follicles, which can lead to dandruff and hair loss, – use shampoos and hair conditioners that regulate the work of the sebaceous glands and contain moisturizing substances, – regularly exfoliate the epidermis with appropriate scalp cosmetics, – rinse your hair with lukewarm water, which narrows the sebaceous glands, so that they will secrete less sebum. In addition, you should follow a proper diet. In addition, it is worth making sure that the oily scalp is not the result of hormonal disorders that need to be compensated.

Recommended treatments

If hair loss prevention proves ineffective, the patient can use available forms of treatment, such as:

Pharmacological treatment

Pharmacological treatment is most effective in the initial phase of baldness. A properly selected treatment helps to inhibit hair loss and increases hair density. Pharmacological treatment allows you to achieve the desired effects on the entire head, which is why it is recommended for people who struggle with receding hairline, the so-called high forehead and baldness on the top of the head. Pharmacological treatment should also be used before a hair transplant.

Needle mesotherapy

Needle mesotherapy is a non-invasive procedure that involves the delivery of medicinal, nourishing or regenerating substances to the area of the hair follicles. The treatment is recommended for women and men who suffer from excessive hair loss due to:- chronic stress, – hormonal disorders (including after pregnancy or during menopause), – seasonal changes. In addition, it is worth using needle mesotarapia before hair transplantation, thanks to which this procedure will cover a smaller area of the scalp.

Microneedling

Microneedling is aimed at stimulating the production of growth factors on the hairy scalp. The treatment is performed with a special roller with microneedles, which causes minor damage to the epidermis. As a result, there is an influx of platelets and growth factors in the area of the treatment, necessary for skin regeneration. Microneedling is recommended for people who complain of excessive hair loss due to poor diet or poor circulation. In addition, this treatment supports other methods of treating alopecia areata and androgenetic alopecia. In addition, the treatment can be used by people who have weak hair that requires strong nutrition. This method can also be used by pregnant and menopausal women.

Scalp micropigmentation

Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is a treatment that improves the appearance of the scalp using skin pigments. In other words, it is a type of tattoo that imitates real hair. The procedure is recommended for: – people after hair transplantation, who still have a visible part of the skin due to thin hair, – women with a typically female type of alopecia, – men with a typically male type of alopecia who want to avoid the horseshoe effect after shaving their head, – people who plan to shave their hair to remove visible scars, – people who suffer from alopecia totality, alopecia areata, cicatricial alopecia or have lost hair as a result of radiotherapy.

Laser Hair Restoration Therapy (LLLT)

Laser hair restoration therapy involves stimulating hair growth by exposing the hair follicles to red light. It is recommended as an additional treatment in androgenetic alopecia, female pattern baldness and other diseases caused by inflammation of the scalp.

PDO Threads

PDO threads stimulate blood circulation around the hair follicles, which promotes hair growth and prevents hair loss. The threads are inserted into the selected areas with a thin needle. The substance from which the threads are made completely penetrates the skin after about 8 months and is completely dissolved.

Regenera Activa

Regenera Activa is a procedure involving autologous transplantation of cells, including stem cells and growth factors. As a result, hair follicles damaged by androgens are regenerated, hair loss is inhibited and hair growth is stimulated. The procedure is recommended for androgenetic alopecia, as well as before and after hair transplantation.

FUE Hair Transplant

An FUE hair transplant involves taking individual hair follicles and implanting them in selected areas, so that the hair grows at the desired angle and in the right direction. Hair transplantation using this method is recommended for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia in men and women.
