Needle mesotherapy
Mesotherapy treatment involves injections and administration of nutrients into selected parts of the body. It effectively improves the appearance of the skin, stops the aging process, and fights cellulite. Mesotherapy is also very often used in the fight against excessive hair loss.
Among the numerous methods used in aesthetic medicine to improve the condition of the skin, of a more or less invasive nature, needle mesotherapy is the relatively simplest method. The length of the treatment depends on the part of the body on which it is performed, but a single session usually lasts no longer than 30 minutes. The effect of the treatment is determined by many factors, including the frequency with which it is repeated.
Mesotherapy – what is it?
The beginnings of mesotherapy date back to the 50s of the twentieth century. Its creator is considered to be the French doctor Michael Pistor, who performed spot injections of drugs to treat pain in patients suffering from rheumatic, laryngological or neurological diseases. 20 years later, this method began to be used in aesthetic medicine as well. Needle mesotherapy involves subcutaneous or intradermal injection of small doses of drugs or other active substances into a selected area of the body. The administered preparation is released gradually, without causing a systemic reaction of the body, as it happens in the case of oral therapy. Mesotherapy is performed using a special dose measuring gun or a syringe. The treatment area is then punctured about several dozen times. In order for the effect of the treatment to be satisfactory and last as long as possible, it should be repeated about 3-6 times at intervals of several dozen days.
Mesotherapy – who is this treatment for?
The use of needle mesotherapy in aesthetic medicine is very wide. It is used, among others, to remove:
- Scars
- Stretch marks
- cellulite
- Discoloration
- acne lesions
- signs of skin aging (wrinkles, loss of skin density and firmness)
- in excessive hair loss
Needle mesotherapy can be successfully used in combination with other aesthetic medicine treatments, e.g. chemical peels, microdermabrasion or endermology.
Before and during the mesotherapy procedure
Mesotherapy is a safe procedure, but it is always preceded by a consultation with a doctor, during which he or she talks to the patient about the expected effects and selects the appropriate preparation.
Before the first puncture is made, the treatment area is sometimes anesthetized with a special anesthetic cream. Then the doctor performs a series of punctures at intervals of about 0.5 cm from each other. Immediately after the injection, the puncture site may be slightly reddened.
What preparations are used in mesotherapy?
There are many different preparations used in needle mesotherapy available on the market today. These are single substances, ready-made mixtures (so-called cocktails) or preparations intended for self-development. The person performing the treatment should know the effects of each substance and be able to match it to a given aesthetic problem. Each active substance is always selected for a specific patient and their expectations. The most commonly used preparation is hyaluronic acid – it provides the skin with adequate hydration, stimulates the synthesis of collagen and fibroblasts, reduces the formation of free radicals and prevents skin aging. In mesotherapy, all kinds of antioxidants are also successfully used, i.e. substances that inhibit the development of the aforementioned free radicals responsible for oxidative stress. A strong antioxidant is, for example, vitamin A and retinoids, vitamin C or vitamin E.
What other substances can be administered?
Polyphenols used in mesotherapy also have antioxidant properties. They catch free radicals, prevent lipid oxidation, and also have anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antifungal properties, and seal blood vessels. They are also sealed by flavonoids, e.g. campferol, improving blood flow, eliminating swelling and tightening the skin. Cocktails administered during mesotherapy often also contain coenzyme Q10 – an antioxidant that begins to decrease in the body with age. Thanks to it, the skin becomes smoother and more elastic and does not undergo aging processes so quickly.
Effects of mesotherapy
Mesotherapy allows you to achieve different effects depending on your needs and the preparation used. With its help, we can improve skin firmness, even out its tone, get rid of fine wrinkles, deal with cellulite, stretch marks or inhibit hair loss. However, for the full effect, it is necessary to approach the entire procedure several times, at intervals of several weeks.
