I have been a member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) for many
years. It allows me not only to continually expand my knowledge on hair transplantation or keep me
updated with all the medical advancements, but also I have a chance to participate in many
important events organised all over the world. On returning from 26 th ISHRS conference taking
place in Hollywood, I thought I wouldn’t be going to such an amazing, valuable and educative
event very soon. However, I didn’t have to wait long a conference exceeding my expectations – the
next edition of ISHRS World Conference in Bangkok, 2019 was more than I could ever dreamt of!
ISHRS – the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery
ISHRS stands for the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, a global non-profit medical
association and a leading authority on hair loss. This society consists of specialists from as many as
70 countries all over the world. Together they strive to achieve excellence in the treatment of hair
loss problems by promoting the highest standards, medical ethics and research into the above-
mentioned issues. I am extremely proud to be part of the association – I am able to not only expand
my expertise but also share the knowledge I have already gained. The place where ISHRS members
can meet and exchange valuable experience once a year is ISHRS World Conference itself,
organised for almost three decades. I am under the impression that this event excels itself year by
year. Undoubtedly, it is influenced by the dynamic development of modern medicine as well as by
the surroundings of the conference, which is held every year in a different corner of the world. For
me, this event is also of great importance because of social relations with the specialists from all
over the world – ISHRS members are characterised by a great level of knowledge on hair
restoration surgery as well as an amazing willingness and desire to share experiences. This
contributes to forming new relationships and hours of endless discussions.
27th ISHRS World Conference
The last edition of ISHRS World Conference was held in the autumn of 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand.
During a several-day visit there I had an opportunity to observe the work of the world’s greatest
specialists including Dr. Kenichiro Imagawa from Japan or Dr. Pars Mohebi from Los Angeles.
What undoubtedly stayed in my mind was an excellent work on the usage of stem cells to treat
male-type alopecia, presented by Dr. Ratchathorn Panchaprateep, and ‘live surgery’ performed by
Dr. Roberto Trivellini. I’ve already mentioned this once, but I need to repeat myself – the doctors
working in this field of aesthetic medicine treat ISHRS meeting as a real celebratory festiveness!
It’s difficult to describe briefly everything what can be experienced during such an event, and the
knowledge brought into my surgery office is like gold dust. And, of course, the social aspect of the
event is what matters as well. It’s not easy to gather friend-doctors from 70 world countries in one
place. Exchanging handshakes, conversations, discussions and evening meetings stay with us for
the whole year, until the very next conference.
