Breast shape correction

Breast shape correction (mastopexy) is an operation that patients who are dissatisfied with the appearance of their breasts opt for, usually as a result of past pregnancies, significant weight loss or the passage of time.

This is an effective way to lift the breasts and improve their shape. It involves reshaping the breasts to make them firm and lifted again. As a result of the procedure, the shape of the mammary gland is changed and excess flaccid skin is removed. It is also possible to reduce the size of the nipple-areola complex. Mastopexy can be combined with breast augmentation surgery.

Breast shape correction – what is it?

Breast shape correction involves lifting and improving the shape of the breast by removing excess skin and shaping the breast gland tissue. The areola is moved higher (or reduced if it is overstretched). Mastopexy can be performed with an incision around the areola, with a vertical scar to the subpectoral fold, or with an anchor-shaped scar. In the situation of gland atrophy (for example, after breastfeeding), the effect of the operation can be further improved with breast implants. Mastopexy surgery is performed under general anesthesia. It lasts about 1 – 3 h.

Breast shape correction – for whom?

Mastopexy is a procedure aimed at those women whose breasts have lost their original shape. This can be due to a number of factors, but the most common reasons for the procedure are primarily those who have had a period of pregnancy and breastfeeding, are after significant weight loss, and older people whose breasts have changed shape with age.

Recommendations before the procedure

Before the operation, it is necessary to perform appropriate tests, i.e. morphology, ECG and ultrasound. It is also important to refrain from smoking, drinking alcohol, and taking anticoagulant drugs at least a month before the operation.

Recommendations after the procedure

After mastopexy, a daily stay in the clinic is required. For 2 months after the procedure, the patient should wear a special post-operative bra to support her breasts and avoid sleeping on her stomach. The recovery period usually lasts a few days, and you can return to physical activity 6-8 weeks after the date of the procedure.

After surgery, swelling and pain may occur on the breasts. To relieve unpleasant discomfort, you can take painkillers prescribed by your doctor.

Effects of abdominal plasty

Mastopexy makes it possible to achieve breast shape improvement. The first effect is visible immediately after the procedure is performed, but the final results usually have to wait from 3 to 6 months. It should be borne in mind that surgery cannot stop the physiological processes of aging or prevent the effects of gravity. Therefore, although mastopexy is permanent, over time there may be a need to repeat the operation.
