Abdominal skin plasty
Abdominal plication, or abdominoplasty, is a procedure that gets rid of unsightly folds of skin in the abdominal area. People who have lost a lot of weight in a relatively short period of time, or are after a recent pregnancy, often face this affliction, which often becomes a cause of complexes. Abdominal plastics make it possible to effectively eliminate this problem.
Abdominoplasty also allows us to avoid or get rid of unpleasant complications associated with the accumulation of excess skin in the abdominal region. If we lead to some negligence, this affliction can result in skin fungus, abdominal hernia, and abdominal muscle distention. Performing abdominal plication can result in a better appearance, health and well-being.
Abdominal plication – what is it?
Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure that involves making an incision in the lower abdomen, removing excess skin along with fatty tissue and strengthening the muscles for a slimmer silhouette. Importantly, it is very common for unsightly stretch marks to appear in this area. With abdominal plication, we can largely get rid of this problem as well, removing the area of skin where the lesions occur. The incision is made at the level of the lower abdomen, which allows us to hide the scar under a bathing suit or underwear. Gradually, the scar matures and becomes fainter and less visible.
Abdominal plication – for whom?
The procedure is dedicated to people who have gained excess skin on the abdomen as a result of significant weight loss. It is also eagerly used by women who have visible skin-fat folds left in the abdomen after pregnancy. It should be emphasized that abdominoplasty is not a weight-loss procedure, but is intended to remove skin-fat folds from the abdomen. It should not be performed on people who have a problem with overweight or obesity, but is intended to improve appearance after previous weight loss. To maintain the effect after the procedure, it is important that the patient maintains a stable body weight. For this reason, abdominal plication is intended for people who can control their weight. It should not be performed in women who are planning another pregnancy in the next few years.
Recommendations before the procedure
When planning an operation, remember to:
- At least 4 weeks before the planned date of the procedure, stop smoking cigarettes
- 2 weeks before plastic surgery do not take aspirin or any aspirin derivatives
- inform the doctor about all medications the patient is taking or has recently taken
- inform the doctor about medications to which the patient is allergic
- provide a set of tests needed for the procedure
Recommendations after the procedure
An elastic bandage, corset or compression garment should be worn around the clock for at least 4 weeks after surgery, and only during the day for another 2 weeks. The first effects of the surgery are visible immediately after the operation. Over time, the surgical swelling of the tissues will subside, their structure will be remodeled, the cut lines will fade.
Effects of abdominal plasty
After an abdominoplasty, our abdomen will become proportional to the rest of the whole body. The skin in this area will become firmer and tighter. We will no longer have to struggle with sagging folds of skin or stretch marks on the abdomen. The abdominal area will be nicely and naturally modeled. The abdominal muscles will also be surgically strengthened, which will maintain the shape of our figure. The first effects of abdominal plasty are visible immediately after the procedure. Swelling and bruising may persist for several weeks. Scars, which are red at first, fade over time and become barely visible.
