Needle mesotherapy

The mesotherapy treatment consists in injecting and administering nutrients to selected parts of the body. Effectively improves the appearance of the skin, stops the aging process and fights cellulite. Mesotherapy is also very often used in the fight against excessive hair loss.

Among the numerous methods used in aesthetic medicine to improve the condition of the skin, of a more or less invasive nature, needle mesotherapy is the relatively simplest method. The length of the procedure depends on the part of the body on which it is performed, but a single session usually lasts no longer than 30 minutes. Many factors determine the effect of the treatment, including the frequency with which it is repeated.

Mezoterapia – co to takiego?

The beginnings of mesotherapy date back to the 1950s. Its creator is considered to be a French doctor, Michael Pistor, who performed point injections of drugs in the treatment of pain in patients suffering from rheumatic, laryngological or neurological diseases. 20 years later, this method was also used in aesthetic medicine. Needle mesotherapy consists in subcutaneous or intradermal injection of small doses of drugs or other active substances into a selected area of the body. The administered preparation is released gradually without causing a systemic reaction of the body, as is the case with oral therapy. Mesotherapy is performed using a special dose measuring gun or a syringe. The treatment area is then punctured about several dozen times. For the effect of the treatment to be satisfactory and last as long as possible, it should be repeated about 3-6 times at intervals of several to several dozen days.

Mesotherapy – who is this treatment for?

The use of needle mesotherapy in aesthetic medicine is very wide. It is used, among others, for removal:

  • scars
  • stretch marks
  • cellulite
  • discoloration
  • acne lesions
  • signs of skin aging (wrinkles, loss of skin density and firmness)
  • in excessive hair loss

Needle mesotherapy can be successfully used in conjunction with other treatments in the field of aesthetic medicine, e.g. chemical peels, microdermabrasion or endermology.

Before and during mesotherapy

Mesotherapy is a safe procedure, but it is always preceded by a consultation with the doctor, during which he talks with the patient about the expected effects and selects the appropriate preparation.

Before performing the first puncture, the treatment area is sometimes anesthetized with a special anesthetic cream. The doctor then makes a series of punctures at intervals of approx. 0.5 cm apart. The puncture area may be slightly red immediately after injection.

What products are used in mesotherapy?

There are now many different needle mesotherapy products available on the market. These are single substances, ready-made mixtures (so-called cocktails) or products intended for self-preparation. The person performing the procedure should know the effect of each substance and be able to adjust it to the aesthetic problem. Each active substance is always selected for a particular patient and his expectations. The most commonly used product is hyaluronic acid – providing the skin with adequate hydration, stimulating the synthesis of collagen and fibroblasts, reducing the formation of free radicals and preventing skin aging. In mesotherapy, all kinds of antioxidants are also successfully used, that is, substances that inhibit the development of these free radicals responsible for oxidative stress. A strong antioxidant is e.g. vitamin A and retinoids, vitamin C or vitamin E. Polyphenols used in mesotherapy also have an antioxidant effect. They capture free radicals, prevent lipid oxidation, and have anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antifungal effects, as well as sealing blood vessels. They are also sealed by flavonoids such as camphorol, improving blood flow, eliminating swelling and tightening the skin. The cocktails given during mesotherapy often also include coenzyme Q10 – an antioxidant, which begins to decrease with age in the body. Thanks to it, the skin becomes more smooth and elastic and does not undergo so rapid aging processes.
